It was supposed to be a normal work day for me, but my mom decided to tag me along to her weekly media group meeting called – Bulong Pulungan Sa Sofitel (every Tuesday) last April 8, 2014. The discussion was about health, particularly DOMEX’s One Million Clean Toilets Campaign – Toilet Sanitation.
There are a lot of really bad toilet facilities in our country such as, roro’s (absolutely disgusting), bus lines, gas stations and tourist destinations. Unsanitary toilets are high candidates of causing high risk of diarrhea diseases. Which is why DOMEX Philippines (UNILEVER) has partnered with UNICEF and the Philippine Public Health Association (PPHA), to advocate 1 million clean toilets
– a campaign that educates the public on the health impacts of germ-free toilets and secures one million pledges from households, government agencies and private corporations to conscientiously maintain clean, safe, and hygienic bathrooms.
In line with this, DOMEX also partnered with SHELL Gas stations NLEX/SLEX throughout the Holy Week and summer months, a tie-up with major hospitals such as Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital for information dissemination and other activities, as well as partnerships with dining establishments to further reinforce their commitment to public health through proper toilet sanitation.

During the enlightening discussion, Mr. Jay Go (marketing director for Unilever Home Care) said that DOMEX hopes to garner 1 million toilet pledges (which you can be part of in their Facebook Page). Their target for the 1 million clean toilet (hopefully), will be on the World Toilet Day celebration in November. Uniliver Philippines on the other hand, hopes to add this number to their envisioned 1 Billion Better Lives by 2020.
Tips on toilet sanitation:
1. The most obvious – ALWAYS wash your hands before and after eating, or before and after using the lavatory.
2. Make sure the put down the water closet’s cover before flushing, as not to spread particles all over the lavatory.
3. DOMEX is the country’s top leading household product, when using pure make sure to wear gloves for protection.
If you want to take part on DOMEX’s pledge on Facebook, every unique click DOMEX will donate P5.00 contribution to UNICEF’S sanitation program.
